This is a rare opportunity to spend a day with talented wood-carver, Andrew Byam. In a small group, you will learn the art of carving your own spoon from fresh ‘green’ wood. Together, you’ll look at design, the best materials to work with, tools of the trade and how to use a hand axe. Once you’ve made a spoon ‘blank’ using an axe you’ll move onto knife work, shaping your spoon into your own unique design.
All tools will be provided, but if you have any already feel free to bring them along. No experience is necessary, but you must be prepared for some physical work. You must be over 18, or over 16 if accompanied by an adult (who doesn’t need to be on the course, but must be around to keep an eye on you!).
You’ll be carving in one of the barns in the Wild Sussex Wood Yard so wrap up warm. Sturdy footwear is essential e.g. hiking boots or wellies.
Come and get creative and learn a rewarding new skill.
Hot drinks and biscuits included.
(Lunch available in the Wood Yard or bring your own)
